Armoured Personnel Carriers are used to transport troops (and sometimes weapons/stores) around the battlefield. In recent years, they have developed into more heavily armed and armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) or Mechanised Infantry Combat Vehices (MICV or MCV), which transport troops directly into battle, then remain to provide direct fire support with their own weaponry.
